Successful entrepreneurs need to be continually innovative. But how do you find new opportunities to take your business to new markets and growth levels? Here are Five ways to identify more business opportunities.

1: Know your potential clients needs

When you’re targeting potential customers know who they are, listen to their needs, wants, challenges and frustrations with your industry. Knowing your client need is the difference between wasting time and smart business, therefore the only skills you can use to build your business is to identify who your target client is and what's their needs. This will help you to find opportunities to develop more products and services.

2: Listen to your customers

When you’re talking to your customers listen to what they are saying about your industry, products and services. Have they used similar products and services before? What did they like/dislike? Why should or did they come to you? What are their objections. Communicating with them is like communicating with a significant other – if you don’t listen, you’re in trouble.

No business wants to stagnate, or - worse - get smaller. Businesses need to grow if they are going to continue to be successful. Listen to your customers, hold focus sessions, feedback forms, conduct surveys, and they will give you the answers you need to grow your business. They will feel valued and they will come back for more.

You can use this knowledge to create marketing strategies that take advantage of your competitors' weaknesses, and improve your own business performance. Remember there is no substitute to paying attention

3: Know your competitors

Knowing who your competitors are, and what they are offering, can help you to make your products, services and marketing stand out. It will enable you to set your prices competitively and help you to respond to rival marketing campaigns with your own initiatives. Do a little competitive analysis to see what your competitors are doing and more importantly not doing? Where are they falling down? What are they doing right? What makes customers go to them over you?

Analyzing your competitors will help you identify key business opportunities to expand your market reach out and develop your products and services.

Remember competition is not just another business that might take money away from you. It can be another product or service that's being developed and which you ought to be selling or looking to license before somebody else takes it up.

4: Look at industry trends and insights

Staying up to date in an industry that’s constantly shifting isn’t easy, but being aware of changes as they’re happening can keep you ahead of the curve. To help stay on the ball with industry challenges, opportunities and trends, always subscribe to journals and keep up with Industry magazines.

Get alerts on industry publications, join relevant associations, and follow other industry experts. Absorb yourself in your industry and continually educate yourself on the latest techniques and trends.

5: Advertisement

Advertisement changes people's attitudes and perceptions of your business. It helps to create or develop a distinctive brand for your business therefore making it stand out from your competitors. Advertisement makes your business first choice for customers, ahead of your competitors.
